Iva Apostolova

Prof. Dr. Iva Apostolova (Orcid ID: 0000-0002-2701-175X)

Dr. Iva Apostolova is employed in the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. She obtained her Master degree in Ecology in Sofia University. The PhD degree in Ecology and environmental protection was earned in 1991 in the Institute of Botany at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Her dissertation was addressed to the ecology and phytocoenology of Festuca pratensis communities in Bulgaria.

  1. Apostolova has expertise in vegetation ecology, phytocoenology and plant conservation. Her research includes syntaxonmy of natural and semi-natural vegetation in Bulgaria and Balkan peninsula, protected areas management, habitat description and vegetation mapping. Additionally she successfully administered research projects, collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications.

She was a superviser of five undergraduate research students in the past and six postgraduate students with four who have successfully gone on to complete their Ph.D. program.
